Great Inclusive Summer Activities – Making the most of the Irish Summer

Discover accessible holiday destinations and inclusive summer activities across Ireland in 2025 — from scenic getaways to adaptive outdoor experiences.

Following on from our previous Blog Post “Exciting Accessible Travel News : Travel Without Limits“, MCS is constantly on the look out for local inclusive summer activities all across Ireland. While we currently have the good weather it is important to highlight the effort being made across the country to open doors to people of all abilities. Whether you’re a wheelchair user, a traveler with sensory sensitivities or something who simply needs a little extra assistance, Ireland has options available to you.

Most recently, the Irish Wheelchair Association (IWA) has started a campaign to make all blue flag beaches accessible where physically possible by installing accessible mobility mats. In Co Mayo, the local access group of the IWA in Béal an Mhuirthead now have access to Trá Oiligh. Mayo County Council overcame the issue of public liability insurance, and are leading by example to other local authorities. The beach has disabled parking, accessible toilets and now accessible mobility mats. A huge well done to everyone at the IWA!

We of course, can’t talk about accessible beaches without mentioning ‘Matthew’s Way’, in Ballymoney, Co. Wexford. It was officially opened almost a year ago, on May 31. The path is named after local disability activist and MCS Case Management Client, Matthew McGrath. An improvement to disability parking was made, an accessible toilet was installed and a beach wheelchair is now also available on the beach. Below is a video of Matthew at Matthew’s Way!

It is not just beaches that Ireland has when it comes to accessible nature escapes. In the Kingdom, Killarney National Park offers several flat, tarmacked trails suitable for mobility scooters and wheelchairs, both Muckross House and traditional farms are wheelchair accessible. There are also accessible boat tours on the Lakes of Killarney in the park.

If you are after an adventurous Inclusive Summer Activities break both Carlingford Adventure Centre, Co. Louth and Surf2Heal, Co. Clare might be the choice for you! Carlingford is known for its inclusive programming, this adventure hub offers rock climbing, kayaking and ziplining experience tailored to a range of physical abilities. They provide adapted equipment and trained staff for safe, exciting outdoor fun. A list of their activities is available here. Surf2Heal is an annual summer surf camp in Lahinch designed for children and young adults with autism.
