When I went blind, I couldn’t see anything. Yet for months I was going through cycles of denying that it was real because I simply didn’t want it to be. It was the same in the aftermath of my paralysing fall.

Thankfully it’s just part of being human and Elizabeth Kubler-Ross identifies denial as part of her 5 Stages of Grief model that also includes anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. The important thing is that we recognise it as individuals, leaders and communities before we make any rash decisions.
